Early in 2009, in the weeks before the tragedy that was the Black Saturday bushfires, a heat wave hovered over Australia. Far from being asleep in the trees all day, these little guys went looking for water.
Wild koalas flagged down cyclists and asked for water, wandered into the shade of patios looking for relief, drank from the hands of children, and communicated like we had never seen before on such a scale, and all at the same time. Thank you to everyone who shared these amazing photographs with me.
These photos of koalas drinking water (when all the experts had always said koalas don't drink water!) were the inspiration for Koalatracker.com.au.
