The long-time regular members of KoalaTracker are aware of the time I have dedicated to this project. What few realise is that the direct cost to me in creating this national koala mapping portal now exceeds more than $200,000, inclusive of real out-of-pocket expenditure and time volunteered, sometimes at the expense of other work. The personal cost has been great, but it remains a project that I passionately believe is important.
To-date I have not received any financial contribution from government or researchers or other organisations trying to copy it, despite others being very aware of the cost to me of development, and despite ESRI Australia - and others claiming responsibility for KoalaTracker (previously KoalaDiaries) - profiting from my effort.
I have been slandered, lied to, lied about and my work has been used to enrich and award themselves with the perceived kudos ascribed to developing a project that has provided new insight to the location, points of impact, range and behaviours of koalas. Much of it information new to science.
If you would like to assist, such assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your equally passionate belief in KoalaTracker.com.au, and for your continued use and support of this site.
